Trieste Estate Continues With Theater, Music, Film and Family Events Across the City

The city’s summer cultural festival, Trieste Estate, continues Friday evening with a series of performances and screenings across the city.

At 8 p.m. in Piazzale De Gasperi, the TACT Festival’s Fuoricentro program presents a live performance by Funky Lemonade, whose repertoire draws on funk, soul and contemporary influences.

At 8:30 p.m. at the Politeama Rossetti, the International Operetta Association of Friuli Venezia Giulia stages Ballo al Savoy, one of the best-known works of the operetta repertoire.

At 9 p.m. in the Sartorio Museum Garden, the Slovenian Permanent Theatre presents Babe, a contemporary production combining dance, sound and theater. The performance accompanies the presentation of the Tantadruj Theatre Award, which recognizes theatrical excellence across the cross-border region.

Also at 9 p.m. in the Muzio de Tommasini Public Garden, the Association Casa del Cinema screens Nuremberg, a drama centered on the Nuremberg Trials and the psychological evaluations of leading Nazi officials after World War II.

The evening concludes at 9:30 p.m. in Piazzale De Gasperi with Orakel, a production by Opera Fiammae directed by Anton Bonura.

Saturday, June 21

Activities begin in Campo San Giacomo with a family-oriented program organized by the TACT Festival. A ceramic-painting workshop takes place at 5 p.m., followed by the children’s theater performance Stories from the Sea at 5:30 p.m.and We Are All Biodiverse at 6 p.m.

The program then moves to Piazza Puecher, where performances begin at 8 p.m. with Gianni-Pasquale and Nice to Meet You Two. At 9 p.m., audiences can attend the circus production Tomate Puro Tomate.

Also at 9 p.m. in the Sartorio Museum Garden, Cabiria Teatro presents La dolce guerra (Sladka vojna), a bilingual production exploring the role of cinema and education during World War I.

At the same time, 9 p.m. in the Muzio de Tommasini Public Garden, the Casa del Cinema association screens Buen Camino, a film following a father’s search for his daughter along the Camino de Santiago.

Monday, June 22

At 10 a.m. in the Covered Market, participants of all ages are invited to contribute to a large collaborative installation made from biodegradable balloons under the guidance of Clown Tomate.

Music takes center stage at 8:30 p.m. in the Sartorio Museum Garden with The Clarinet in Romantic Music, featuring clarinetist Davide Casali and pianist Pierpaolo Leci performing works by Carl Maria von Weber, Robert Schumann and Bruno Morpurgo.

At 9 p.m. in the Muzio de Tommasini Public Garden, audiences can attend a screening of Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot in its original language with Italian subtitles, as part of celebrations marking the centenary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth.

Tuesday, June 23

The day begins at 10 a.m. in the Covered Market with Giants of Biodegradable Balloons, a workshop focused on large-scale balloon sculpture.

At 6:30 p.m. at the former San Giacomo WashhouseInterview with Nereo Zeper brings together performers from the Mago d’Umago & Friends project.

At 8:30 p.m. in Sala Luttazzi, Magazzino 26, the Approdi Festival presents Un prete ruvido, a theatrical portrait of Don Giuseppe Lozer, a priest remembered for his social engagement and outspoken character during the turbulent decades of the early twentieth century.

At 9 p.m. in the Sartorio Museum Garden, actor and director Massimiliano Finazzer Flory presents A tu per tu con San Francesco – dalla ferita alla letizia, a multidisciplinary reflection on the life and legacy of St. Francis of Assisi.

Also at 9 p.m. in the Muzio de Tommasini Public Garden, families can enjoy a screening of SpongeBob: A Pirate Adventure, an animated film following SpongeBob SquarePants and his friends on a seafaring quest involving the legendary Flying Dutchman.
