The City of Trieste has issued a public warning after receiving reports of a suspected scam targeting local schools.
According to municipal officials, callers have been contacting schools while falsely claiming to represent the city’s Technical Office or other public institutions. During these calls, they allegedly tell recipients that they have mistakenly received a financial contribution and must return the funds.
The municipality emphasized that official communications are conducted through formal correspondence. City representatives do not make generic phone calls, provide mobile phone numbers for callbacks to arrange meetings, or verbally request the transfer of money.
Officials are urging schools and residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious contacts matching this description as quickly as possible. Reports can be made to the Judicial Police Unit of the Local Police, the Carabinieri, or the State Police.
The warning comes amid continued efforts by local authorities to raise awareness of fraud schemes that often rely on impersonating public officials to obtain money or personal information.
