Travelers across Italy are facing widespread disruptions to rail and public transportation services as a 24-hour general strike affects trains, buses and metro networks nationwide.
The strike, called by a coalition of trade unions including CUB, SGB (Sindacato Generale di Base), ADL Varese, SI Cobas and USI Cit, began on Thursday evening and is scheduled to continue through Friday.
Rail services operated by Gruppo FS Italiane, Italo and Trenord are among those affected. The walkout runs from 9 p.m. on Thursday until 9 p.m. on Friday, impacting high-speed, long-distance and regional trains throughout the country.
In a statement, Gruppo FS Italiane warned that the strike could result in service changes both before and after the official start and end times. The action involves employees of Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord.
Under Italian law, a number of essential rail services are guaranteed during strikes. Passengers are advised to check schedules and verify whether their train is operating before traveling.
In the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, travelers can find updated information on local public transportation services through the regional transit authority’s website, TPL FVG.
