The most frequently used password in Italy this year is “admin,” according to a new report by the online password manager NordPass, which analyzed data from 44 countries.
The findings come from the seventh edition of the annual Top 200 Most Common Passwords report, compiled in collaboration with the threat-exposure platform NordStellar. Researchers examined passwords that appeared in “public data breaches and dark web repositories” between September 2024 and September 2025.
In Italy, “password” ranked second, followed by “123456,” a sequence that remained the most common password globally for the sixth consecutive year. Rounding out the top five were “cambiami” (“change me”) and “123456789.”
Several of the country’s most common passwords draw inspiration from Serie A football, with terms such as “Juventus” and “Napoli1926” appearing frequently. Other entries include “ciaociao,” first names, and various swear words.
“Much to our surprise, password quality is poor across all generations,” NordPass said in a statement. “Where we expected discerning differences, we actually faced a striking uniformity in vulnerabilities.”
Despite years of public-awareness campaigns aimed at improving cybersecurity habits, researchers found little sign of progress. With the number of data breaches continuing to grow, they warned that “the problem remains as prevalent and dangerous as ever.”
To strengthen digital security, NordPass recommends the use of complex passwords—incorporating uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols—and updating them regularly.
