On Saturday, September 27, the market Un Pozzo di Occasioni returns to Opicina, a small town on the Karst Plateau just above Trieste. Organized by the cultural association Cose di Vecchie Case, the market takes place every fourth Saturday of the month through the end of 2025.
From 8 a.m., visitors can browse stalls offering antiques, modern collectibles, vinyl records, comic books, miniature models, and other memorabilia, alongside regional handicrafts and hobbyist creations. Entry is free.
The event, co-organized with the City of Trieste, has become a monthly tradition, designed both to revitalize Opicina and to draw visitors from the city and beyond. By attracting foot traffic, the market also aims to support local businesses in the town center.
In addition to antiques and collectibles, exhibitors present an array of artisanal works in wood, glass, and ceramics. Decorative plates, lacework, crochet, Murano glass, jewelry in stone and copper, hand-painted silk, and artisanal soaps are among the handmade items on display.
The market takes its name from a nearby historic landmark: the Zinzendorf Stele, erected in 1780 at the intersection of Strada per Vienna and Via di Prosecco. The monument commemorates Maria Theresa and Joseph II, sovereigns who supported the creation of a major commercial road linking Trieste to the Carso and onward to Vienna. Nearby once stood a stone well, which inspired the market’s title.
Weather permitting, the next edition will take place on October 25.
