The Mattinate e Serate Musicali Internazionali, a chamber music series that has become a fixture of Trieste’s cultural calendar, will open its 25th season on September 14, 2025, and run through April 26, 2026.

This year carries special weight: the Nuova Orchestra Ferruccio Busoni, which anchors the series, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Founded in 1965 by Aldo Belli and now led by his son, conductor Massimo Belli, the orchestra will mark the milestone with premieres, guest soloists, and collaborations with international competitions.

The season begins on September 14 at Sala Luttazzi with works by Boccherini and a performance by pianist Yifan Wu, winner of the 2025 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano.

On October 5, the orchestra will perform an all-Mozart program with pianist Shiran Wang. Later that month, on October 26, violinist Sara Schisa will appear in the first of three concerts dedicated to young talents.

A centerpiece of the season arrives on November 2, when the orchestra premieres Giovanni Allevi’s Joje de vivre, a concerto for guitar and strings written for its anniversary.

Other highlights include Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with violinist Giada Visentin on December 7; a Mozart–Haydn program with Shiran Wang and bassoonist Bao Han Nguyen on December 20; and a January 18, 2026 concert devoted to film music, featuring works by Nino Rota, Ennio Morricone, and John Williams.

Additional premieres include Marco Podda’s Fantasia sveviana on September 14, Alessandro Grego’s Rapsodia Giuliana on February 15, and Raffaele Cacciola’s Midnight Reverie on January 18.

The series, displaced this year from its traditional home at the Revoltella Museum because of renovations, will spread across several venues, including the Conservatorio “Giuseppe Tartini” and the Museo Sartorio. As in previous years, audiences at Sala Luttazzi will have the chance to meet performers after the concerts in informal gatherings accompanied by regional wines.

Founded in 2001 by Belli and Triestine composer Marco Sofianopulo, the Mattinate e Serate Musicali Internazionali has combined established repertoire with contemporary works and emerging talent. This year’s edition reflects that formula while honoring an orchestra that has been part of Trieste’s musical life for six decades.
