Interview: Elisa Lodi, Trieste’s councillor for real estate policies and sports

City officials on Monday presented the nearly completed renovation work at the Millecolori preschool on Via Salvore 12, in the Chiarbola neighborhood.

The project, carried out by the Cividale-based firm F.lli Bordon at a cost of about €80,000, was prompted by repeated water infiltration that forced the closure of two classrooms last June. As a result, students were temporarily relocated to two separate facilities to finish the school year.

Work has included replacing the roof over the preschool section of the building, renewing gutters, and installing new pre-painted sheet metal. Crews also restored and waterproofed part of the flooring on the outdoor terrace. The funding was allocated under the 2025 kindergarten maintenance program.

At the press conference, Elisa Lodi, the city’s councillor for real estate policies and sports, emphasized the importance of reopening the facility in time for the new school year. “We are pleased that children can return to their own classrooms,” she said, noting that two separate construction sites had operated simultaneously — one on behalf of the condominium and another managed by the city’s public works department.

Maurizio De Blasio, councillor for education and family policies, highlighted safety as a priority. “Several construction projects are being completed in these weeks,” he said. “Our focus is on safe environments for children and staff, and on reassuring families. This teamwork has allowed us to meet deadlines and restore calm.”

The school’s pedagogical coordinator, Anna Mosca, thanked parents for their cooperation during the closure. “We are ready to welcome children and families back to a space truly designed for them,” she said.
