As the sun dips behind the cliffs of the Adriatic, the Orchestra of the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi di Trieste will perform a special open-air concert in the evocative setting of the Piazzale del Castello di Miramare. Presented as part of the “Il Rossetti a Miramare” summer series, the Concerto al Tramonto (Sunset Concert) offers a program of classical elegance under the direction of rising Austrian conductor David Schlager.
Scheduled for Monday, July 28 at 8:40 p.m., the evening will feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s rarely performed Concertone in C major, K. 190, written for two solo violins accompanied by oboe and cello. The solo parts will be performed by violinists Stefano Furini, concertmaster of the Trieste-based orchestra, and Slovenian violinist Aleš Lavrenčič.
The program continues with a selection of movements from Ein Sommernachtstraum (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. These include the overture, scherzo, intermezzo, nocturne, and the well-known wedding march—each evoking Shakespearean whimsy and romantic atmosphere in a fitting location that blends nature, history, and art.
Schlager, a conductor, organist, and vocalist, is the founder and artistic director of The Styrian Chamber Philharmonic. Known for his energetic style and interdisciplinary approach, he brings a youthful touch to a repertoire steeped in classical tradition.
The concert aims to merge the scenic beauty of the Miramare castle grounds with the expressive power of 18th- and 19th-century orchestral music, offering locals and visitors alike a unique cultural experience at the height of summer.
