Hidden among the neighborhoods of Trieste are pockets of urban green that continue to offer residents moments of wonder and reflection. On Saturday, June 21, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, the Parco della Rimembranza and the Colle di San Giusto will host Sguardi nel verde (“A Look into the Green”), a guided nature walk focused on the city’s often-overlooked natural heritage.

Led by botanist and nature guide Marco Paparot, the event is part of a four-part series of Passeggiate Naturalistiche(Nature Walks) organized by the environmental group Ecothema, in collaboration with Trieste’s IV and V Municipal Districts. The initiative aims to encourage residents to engage with local biodiversity and appreciate the urban ecosystems that exist just beyond their doorsteps.

The walk will begin at the green summit of San Giusto Hill—one of Trieste’s most symbolic locations—before continuing along the trails of the Parco della Rimembranza. Along the way, participants will explore a wide variety of plant life, gaining insight into the ecological and historical significance of this wooded park.

Digital handheld microscopes will be used during the walk, allowing participants to examine leaves, bark, and other botanical elements in close detail. The event will conclude with an interactive botany-themed activity designed to foster curiosity and engagement with the natural world.

The initiative reflects a broader effort by local institutions to integrate environmental education into everyday urban life, promoting a slower, more mindful relationship with nature.
