Two of the most prestigious trophies in international tennis made a stop in northeastern Italy today as part of the nationwide “Trophy Tour,” celebrating an unprecedented moment in the country’s sports history. The Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup, representing Italy’s 2024 victories in both men’s and women’s international team tennis, were on display at the Tennis Club Pordenone.
Regional Infrastructure and Territory Councillor Cristina Amirante attended the event, calling the display “an honor” for the region and a unique opportunity for fans, young athletes, and the local community to engage with a milestone in Italian sports.
“The Trophy Tour is more than a celebration,” Amirante said. “It’s a moment to promote the values of sport—determination, teamwork, and personal growth.”
Amirante, a former tennis player herself, joined local officials including Pordenone’s Councillor for Sports and Sports Facilities, Elena Ceolin, and the president of the Tennis Club Pordenone, Andrea Lugo. She described the experience of seeing the two trophies up close as deeply moving, adding that the stop in Pordenone provided a “space for celebration and community.”
The event is part of an initiative led by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (FITP), designed to bring the trophies to cities across the country following Italy’s historic dual victory. It is the first time both national teams have secured their respective titles in the same year.
Amirante also emphasized the broader significance of such events in strengthening connections between sport, regional identity, and local communities. She affirmed the region’s commitment to supporting international tournaments hosted in Friuli Venezia Giulia, citing them as key opportunities for engagement and development.
The trophies will remain on display in Pordenone through the evening before continuing their tour across Italy.
