A longstanding initiative aimed at fostering early childhood literacy is set to return this May, as the Municipality of Trieste reintroduces “Ci vediamo in biblioteca!” (See You at the Library!), a program designed for children in their final year of preschool.

This morning, a group of children from the municipal preschool Primi Voli visited the Quarantotti Gambini Library in Via delle Lodole. Accompanied by their teachers and educational coordinator, Dr. Liviana Zanchettin, the visit marked an early preview of the 2025 edition of the citywide initiative.

Organized by the city’s Department of Education, Schools, and Libraries, the program encourages young children to engage with books and the library environment, with the broader goal of promoting literacy and a lifelong interest in reading.

Now in its latest edition following several successful years, the initiative offers preschool classes a guided, hour-long visit to their nearest municipal library. Sessions are scheduled between 10 a.m. and noon, and are limited to 25 children at a time.

Participating schools can book directly with their preferred library. Children also have the opportunity to register for a library card during their visit.

The initiative is expected to run throughout the month of May.
