In a recent development, Generali Real Estate Sgr’s bid of $6.5 million for Palazzo Carciotti in Trieste has sparked widespread discussion, shifting from media scrutiny to political deliberation. Let’s shed light on the ongoing efforts to determine the future of this iconic building.

Generali Real Estate Sgr’s recent bid for Palazzo Carciotti in Trieste has generated significant attention. Their offer of $6.5 million for the neoclassical landmark has become a topic of discussion. The gradual decline in the value of this historic building has been noticeable over time: starting from an initial auction price of $22 million, subsequent bids have steadily decreased, reaching $14.9 million in the fifth auction held last summer in 2023. Notably, this auction utilized the new platform, eAppaltiFVG.

Palazzo Carciotti, an important symbol of Trieste’s history and a prominent part of the city skyline as seen from the sea, has attracted interest in the past but has yet to receive a serious offer. In 2019, municipal councilor Lorenzo Giorgi proposed the idea of “concerts with hard hats” alongside the Gasometer del Broletto, marking the sole active effort to attract investors to the city’s two abandoned sites. While the third auction resulted in a buyer—a Styrian investor—their submitted deposit fell below the mandatory legal threshold, leading to complications.

Expressions of interest have also come from Invimit Sgr, associated with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and Joc Pececnik, a Slovenian entrepreneur in the gambling industry.

Similar to Rotonda Pancera’s, palazzo Carciotti’s destiny remains to be seen.
