Interviews: Pierpaolo Roberti – Regional Councilor of Friuli Venezia Giulia; Maurizio Giudici – President of Federalberghi Trieste
Trieste inaugurated the first edition of the Bora Bier Fest, a festival dedicated to Central European beer, at the Generali Convention Center in the Porto Vecchio-Porto Vivo district.
The opening ceremony brought together city and regional officials, representatives of the hospitality industry and local organizations. Among those attending were Trieste city councilors Elisa Lodi and Everest Bertoli, Regional Councillor Pierpaolo Roberti, Pro Loco Trieste President Daniele Muha and Federalberghi Trieste President Maurizio Giudici. Players from the Triestina football team were also present.
The festival highlights Trieste’s historical and cultural connections with Central Europe and the former Habsburg Empire. This year’s edition coincides with the 260th anniversary of the first beer-production license granted to the city by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria in 1766.
Lodi praised the organizers and public and private partners for transforming the convention center into a venue for the event. She also recalled the late city councilor for culture, Giorgio Rossi, who had begun working on the festival before his death.
The event, she said, adds to a wider program of activities intended to bring residents and visitors into the city during the All Saints’ Day holiday period and the celebrations for Trieste’s patron saint, St. Justus.
Bertoli said the municipality had committed significant financial resources to the initiative in partnership with the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government, sponsors and other organizations, including Generali.
The Bora Bier Fest is part of a broader effort to highlight Trieste’s historical identity and its cultural links with the countries of Central Europe.
