The historic center of Muggia will host the San Martino Festival from Nov. 13 to 15, bringing together local food producers, winemakers and artisans for three days of tastings, cultural activities and live music.

Wooden stalls will line Piazza Marconi and Piazza Galilei from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., offering regional products including wine, olive oil, honey, jota soup and chestnuts. Each stall will feature a different producer, giving visitors an opportunity to sample and purchase products directly from their makers.

The festival is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Muggia and GAL Carso – LAS Kras, a local development group working to promote the area’s cultural and agricultural heritage.

Nicola Delconte, Muggia’s deputy mayor, said the event was intended to bring residents and visitors together while highlighting local food, crafts and traditions. The program includes guided tours, music and activities focused on the town’s history.

David Pizziga, president of GAL Carso – LAS Kras, said the festival was part of a broader effort to connect small producers and artisans with visitors and encourage tourism throughout the year. He cited the group’s partnership with the municipality and the earlier Malvasia in Porto event as examples of ongoing efforts to promote the region.

A weekend of food and culture

The festival opens Friday, Nov. 13, with an official inauguration at 6 p.m., followed by a live performance at 7:30 p.m. by the ShowBand of the Vecia Trieste Association.

Saturday’s program includes guided visits to the Civic Archaeological Museum, the historic center, Muggia Castle and the Casa Museo Biblioteca Beethoveniana. Visitors can also take part in an olive oil tasting session led by specialists and meet producers from Vigna sul Mar – Urizio and Azienda Agricola Lenardon.

On Sunday, Nov. 15, guided tours of the Beethoven museum, the town and Muggia Castle will continue, alongside another olive oil tasting session and a presentation by Azienda Agricola Scheriani. The festival will conclude with a concert by the Banda della Compagnia Ongia at 6:30 p.m.

Advance reservations are required for the guided tours, tastings and producer presentations.
