The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government has approved a new agreement with the Regional School Office that will allocate €4.5 million to strengthen public schools during the 2026–27 academic year.

The funding, approved by the regional executive on Friday, is aimed at addressing staffing shortages, expanding support for students with disabilities and special educational needs, promoting physical education, and advancing multilingual education across the region.

Regional Education Councillor Alessia Rosolen said the agreement continues a partnership established during the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing the region to finance additional school personnel while ensuring their service is officially recognized for national career rankings.

The largest share of the investment, at least €2 million, will support administrative, technical and auxiliary staff, increasing working hours and improving assistance for students with disabilities. Another €1.65 million will fund inclusion initiatives, including additional hours for special education teachers, projects for students with learning disabilities, and measures to reduce school dropout rates.

The plan also dedicates €500,000 to expanding physical education teaching in lower and upper secondary schools, while smaller allocations will support boarding schools, student participation in national and international academic competitions, and educational events across the region.

A key feature of the agreement is its emphasis on multilingual education. The region will launch an Italian-German bilingual pilot program in three comprehensive school districts in Carnia and continue the experimental multilingual project at the Ingeborg Bachmann Institute in Tarvisio, where students learn German, Slovenian and Friulian alongside Italian.
