Cinema Ariston will present a diverse lineup of screenings from Aug. 27 through Sept. 2, blending restored Hollywood classics, contemporary international cinema and a documentary celebrating one of Trieste’s most distinctive traditions.
The week’s program is led by the return of L’ultima spiaggia (“The Last Beach”), the documentary about the Pedocin, Trieste’s historic seaside bathing establishment that remains divided into separate sections for men and women. After selling out its previous screening, the film returns on Monday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m., with discounted admission.
Action and science-fiction fans will also have the opportunity to revisit Terminator 2: Judgment Day, James Cameron’s landmark 1991 film, beginning Friday, Aug. 28. Widely regarded as one of the defining blockbusters of its era, the film is returning to the big screen as part of the theater’s late-summer programming.
The schedule also highlights new and classic entries in the horror genre. Jane Schoenbrun’s Camp Miasma, a 2026 U.S.-Canadian production starring Gillian Anderson, will be shown in its original English version with Italian subtitles. Set in a summer camp, the film explores themes of fear, desire and identity through a slasher narrative.
Alongside it, Ariston will screen John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978), presented as part of a tribute to influential slasher films. The retrospective will continue the following week with Friday the 13th.
Rounding out the program is Maldoror, directed by Belgian filmmaker Fabrice du Welz. Premiering out of competition at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, the thriller draws inspiration from the real-life “Monster of Marcinelle” case, a notorious series of crimes that shocked Belgium and much of Europe during the 1990s.
