About 500 runners are expected to take part in the sixth edition of the Panoramica delle Malghe on Sunday, July 19, as the mountain plateau above Aviano hosts one of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s leading trail running events.
Organized by Atletica Aviano, the competition features five race distances — 46, 30, 21, 10 and 5 kilometers — with staggered starts between 8 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. The 46-kilometer race will also serve as the Friuli Venezia Giulia Athletics Federation (FIDAL) regional championship for long-distance trail running in both the senior and masters categories.
The courses begin and end at the Roncjade sports area, following gravel roads and well-maintained trails with moderate elevation gain. Shorter routes of 21, 10 and 5 kilometers are open to recreational participants and walkers.
The event traces scenic routes across the Piancavallo plateau, passing alpine huts, forests and meadows, including the area’s well-known Arnica montana fields. This year’s edition also introduces a new section along a recently opened forest road in the municipality of Barcis.
Race organizer Matteo Redolfi said the updated course offers participants “a beautiful journey through the natural landscape of the plateau.”
The weekend will also feature the second round of the Italian Nordic Walking Championships on Saturday. The national competition, held over a 10-kilometer distance, includes separate women’s and men’s races on a one-kilometer circuit around Roncjade.
Registration remains open at the Roncjade sports area on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning until shortly before the races begin.
