Two universities in Italy’s northeastern Friuli Venezia Giulia region have placed among the country’s highest-ranked mid-sized public institutions in the latest annual university rankings compiled by Censis, an Italian social research institute.

The University of Udine tied for third place with the University of Trento, earning a score of 92.7. The University of Trieste moved up to fourth place with a score of 91.7.

The rankings group universities according to student enrollment, dividing them into large, medium and small institutions. Both Udine and Trieste are classified as mid-sized universities.

This year, the University of Sassari topped the mid-sized university category with a score of 93.2.

The Censis rankings are based on a broad assessment of Italy’s higher education system, evaluating factors including campus facilities, student services, scholarship opportunities, levels of internationalization and graduate employability. The annual survey is widely used as a benchmark for comparing the performance of Italian universities.
