Trieste Trasporti announced extensive bus diversions and service limitations for Tuesday, Feb. 17, as the city prepares for the annual masked carnival parade known as the “32° Corso Mascherato – Palio Trieste,” which will pass through central streets beginning in the early afternoon.

The event will move from Piazza Oberdan along Via Carducci, Via Reti, Via Imbriani and Corso Italia before concluding in Piazza della Borsa, prompting traffic restrictions and significant changes across the public transport network in Trieste.

Widespread Route Changes

Starting at 1 p.m., numerous bus lines will be diverted, shortened or temporarily suspended until the parade and related activities conclude. The adjustments affect much of the city center, including key corridors around Piazza Goldoni, Via Carducci, and the Campi Elisi area.

Several lines, including routes 1, 3, 10, 18 and 25, will terminate earlier than usual at temporary endpoints, while others — such as lines 5, 6, 19, 20 and 21 — will follow alternative paths through surrounding streets to bypass the parade route. In some cases, services will operate normally only after clearing the restricted zone.

One branch of Line 17 will be suspended temporarily, pending authorization from officials managing the event area.

Partial Service Reductions

Lines serving outer districts will also see modified routing where they intersect with central arteries. Routes 42 and 44, for example, will be limited along Viale Miramare, while several suburban connections — including lines 40, 41, 51 and 64 — will run on diverted paths before returning to their standard itineraries.

Holiday Timetable in Effect

Transit officials also confirmed that a non-school weekday schedule is in place across the network from Feb. 16 through Feb. 18 because of Carnival-period school closures authorized by regional authorities.

During this period, service follows a Saturday timetable, with one notable addition: Line 23, which typically does not run on Saturdays, remains in operation on its regular schedule. Conversely, lines 55, 56, 57 and 58 are suspended for the three days.

Normal winter service is expected to resume on Thursday, Feb. 19.

Updated timetables are available through the Tpl Fvg and Glimble Fvg mobile apps, as well as on the transport operator’s website and regional travel planner.
