Free guided tours will be offered at the Risiera di San Sabba Museum–National Monument in Trieste on Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25, as part of the city’s program for Holocaust Remembrance Day 2026.
The tours, led by the Association of Tourist Guides of Friuli Venezia Giulia, will take place at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both days and will last approximately one hour. Conducted in Italian, they are free of charge and open to the public while space allows.
The itinerary traces the layered history of the site, which began as a rice-husking factory before being converted by the Nazis into a detention and extermination camp between 1943 and 1945—the only one of its kind on Italian soil. The visit also addresses the postwar period, the long path to public recognition, the site’s designation as a National Monument in 1965, its transformation into a memorial complex in the early 1970s, and its current role as a museum and place of remembrance.
Advance reservations are recommended and should be made by noon on Friday, Jan. 23, by emailing risierasansabba@comune.trieste.it.
