Trieste will host the 11th edition of the Corsa della Bora on Sunday, a trail and ultratrail running event that has become a fixture on the city’s winter sports calendar, drawing athletes across northeastern Italy and neighboring Slovenia.
The race, co-organized by the Municipality of Trieste and the amateur sports association SentieroUNO, will wind through coastal roads, karst villages and wooded trails above the city. To allow runners to move safely across public roads, local authorities have approved a series of temporary traffic restrictions under Municipal Ordinance No. 1240-25.
From midnight to 8 a.m. on Sunday — and, if necessary, until the race has passed — traffic will be briefly halted, for periods of up to five minutes at a time, at several points where the course crosses public roads. These include stretches of Viale Miramare near Via dei Panzera, Strada del Friuli near house numbers 216–218, and in the village of Santa Croce. The interruptions will be managed by stewards and police officers stationed along the route.
A second set of controls will be in place from midnight to 10 a.m. in the Karst plateau areas of Trebiciano and Basovizza, within the jurisdiction of the City of Trieste. Here, short traffic stoppages of up to five minutes may occur along segments of State Road 14, the Strada della Venezia Giulia, particularly near the junctions leading to the Area Science Park and the Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, as well as the access road to the A.S.D. Zarja sports field.
City officials said that any additional changes or adjustments required on the day of the race — including extensions of these measures or further temporary restrictions — may be ordered by the police or local traffic authorities on site, depending on conditions and the progress of the event.
