Interviewees: Colonel Gianluca Migliozzi, Provincial Commander of the Carabinieri in Trieste; Roberto Dipiazza, Mayor of Trieste

The city of Trieste honored Colonel Gianluca Migliozzi, the departing provincial commander of the Carabinieri, with the Sigillo Trecentesco on Wednesday evening, recognizing his two years of service to the community.

The award, presented by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza at the Municipal Palace, marked the conclusion of Migliozzi’s tenure in a city he once described, upon arriving from Gioia Tauro two years ago, as being “at the edge of the empire.” Before leaving, the colonel said he had grown deeply attached to Trieste and thanked local institutions and residents for their collaboration.

Migliozzi said the relationship between law enforcement and citizens is indispensable for identifying and addressing the city’s challenges. He emphasized that prevention should remain a priority, particularly through educational work with young people and schools, while also responding to residents’ perception of insecurity.

A defining focus of his leadership was the fight against fraud. During his tenure, the Carabinieri expanded efforts to prevent scams targeting vulnerable residents through public awareness campaigns and community outreach, making fraud prevention one of the command’s central initiatives.

The civic honor recognized both Migliozzi’s contribution to public safety and his commitment to building trust between the Carabinieri and the people of Trieste.
