The Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government has allocated €340,000 this year to support 115 local projects aimed at preventing violence against women, regional officials announced on Monday. The funding — €300,000 included in the budget law and an additional €40,000 following a high volume of applications — was distributed to municipalities working in partnership with women’s associations that manage anti-violence centers or other third-sector organizations.
The initiatives, many of which are being held ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25, range from conferences and workshops to public installations and performances designed to raise awareness of gender-based violence.
Regional Councillor for Family Policies Alessia Rosolen said the grants, which this year ranged from €2,000 for smaller municipalities to €5,000 for those with more than 25,000 residents, reflect a growing effort to address a persistent social issue. “Violence against women is unacceptable, and we are confronting it with determination by allocating increasing resources to support prevention and awareness-raising activities,” she said. Regional funding has grown from €69,000 in 2018 to this year’s €340,000, a level she said the administration intends to maintain through 2026.
Rosolen noted that the region’s efforts extend beyond awareness campaigns. Friuli Venezia Giulia offers measures to support women in protection programs, including exemptions from the ISEE income certification required for reduced childcare fees, as well as access to the Carta Famiglia benefits program and various student aid measures.
Looking ahead, Rosolen said the region is preparing a new regulation to further promote gender equality. The plan, which will be backed by additional funding, will create a new grant program open to municipalities and third-sector organizations for projects that encourage equal opportunities and greater participation of women and men across economic and social life.
