The Friuli Venezia Giulia Region is intensifying its efforts to tackle fraud and enhance cybersecurity, according to Regional Councilor for Security Pierpaolo Roberti. Speaking Wednesday at a conference titled “Safety in the Territory and on the Web,” organized by the Coordination for the Trade Union Independence of the Police Forces (Coisp) in Trieste, Roberti outlined a series of initiatives aimed at improving public awareness and institutional preparedness against digital threats.

“The Region continues to keep close attention on the issue of fraud and cybersecurity, with numerous initiatives underway,” Roberti said. He noted that the regional government has recently established a training program on artificial intelligence for all regional and public-sector employees, regardless of their role. Additionally, a special allocation has been included in the 2026 budget to finance an extraordinary anti-fraud awareness campaign, developed in cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Insiel, the region’s in-house IT company, continues to play a key role in strengthening cybersecurity, Roberti added. The effort also includes a new collaboration agreement between the University of Udine and the Department of Public Security, aimed at advancing research and coordination in this area.

“These are essential actions to stay one step ahead of fraudsters and to defuse their criminal intentions,” Roberti said.

The councillor emphasized that raising public awareness remains one of the most effective tools in preventing scams. “Communicating the risks connected to fraud helps people understand that anyone — even young people — can fall into these traps,” he said, noting that many fraud operations are organized by highly sophisticated criminal networks that meticulously plan each step to appear credible.

“The only way to counter this,” Roberti continued, “is through proper information and prevention efforts. Events like this one are valuable allies for institutions, helping increase public understanding and promote responsible use of digital tools.”
