Local authorities announced that mosquito-control measures will take place Thursday evening, September 18, following the confirmation of a dengue case in the city.

The intervention, ordered by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, will cover a 200-meter radius in the area between Via del Castelliere and Via Brigata Casale. According to the regional health agency ASUGI’s Department of Prevention, operations will begin with larvicide treatment at 7:30 p.m., followed by adulticide spraying around 9 p.m. The work may be postponed if weather conditions interfere.

Residents, business operators, and property managers within the designated zone have been instructed to follow safety precautions. These include removing or covering containers that could collect rainwater, cleaning outdoor areas to prevent standing water, protecting or harvesting fruits and vegetables, and keeping pets indoors. During the spraying period, people are advised to remain inside with windows and doors closed.

Additional recommendations extend beyond the immediate treatment period. Authorities urged residents to continue eliminating mosquito breeding grounds by emptying containers, treating water in drains and gutters, trimming vegetation, and ensuring unused pools or fountains are either emptied or treated with larvicide.

A temporary traffic ban will be enforced between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. on several streets within the treatment zone, including sections of Via Monte Carso, Via del Castelliere, Salita di Raute, and Via Brigata Casale. Exceptions will be made for emergency services, law enforcement, and vehicles directly involved in the disinfestation.

The dengue case is the first confirmed locally this season. While transmission typically occurs through travel to areas where the virus is more common, local health authorities have taken precautionary steps to minimize the risk of spread.
