On Sunday, September 7, visitors to Trieste will be able to enter several of the city’s major museums without charge, as part of the Italian Ministry of Culture’s Domenica al Museo initiative. The program, which offers free access to cultural institutions across the country on the first Sunday of each month, has been running for several years and continues to attract a wide public.
In Trieste, free admission will apply to the Civic Museums that normally charge entry, including the Museo Revoltella, the Castle of San Giusto, the Carlo Schmidl Theater Museum, the Diego de Henriquez War for Peace Museum, and the Museum of Natural History.
The municipality noted that other institutions in the city already grant free access throughout the year. These include the Museum of the Sea, the Museum of Oriental Art, the Sartorio Museum, the J.J. Winckelmann Antiquities Museum, the Risiera di San Sabba memorial site, the Foiba di Basovizza Documentation Center, and the Museum of the Risorgimento and Oberdan Memorial. Temporary exhibitions held at Magazzino 26 are also included.
The initiative does not cover temporary exhibitions not included in the standard museum ticket or the large-scale shows hosted at the Salone degli Incanti.
Details on opening hours and collections are available on the municipal cultural website, Trieste Cultura
