Amid the glamour and red carpets of the Venice Film Festival, a small corner of the garden at Settimana della Critica villa offered a glimpse of Trieste. On Thursday morning, Francesco Ruzzier of Cappella Underground and the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival hosted a presentation to spotlight the Ariston movie theater, recently restored to its former glory.
The showcase was modest but memorable: a poster of the Ariston alongside trays of cookies from Trieste’s Mug bakery. “We invited cinema representatives from all over Italy,” Ruzzier said. “Our goal is to put the Ariston — a theater with a glorious past in Trieste — back on the national map. It really deserves it.”
Next to the Ariston’s poster stood one for the upcoming Science+Fiction Festival, a reminder of Trieste’s growing role in Italian cinema culture. “Trieste should be on everyone’s map, especially here,” added Max, Ruzzier’s colleague.
