Milan’s Malpensa Airport, Italy’s second largest, was briefly disrupted on Wednesday morning when a man set a fire inside a check-in area and damaged several departure screens with a hammer, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. in Terminal 1, where the man, identified by local news reports as a 28-year-old citizen of Mali legally residing in Italy, allegedly used a flammable liquid to ignite the blaze. He did not have a boarding pass and was not traveling, according to the Italian daily Corriere della Sera.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and the affected area was evacuated as a precaution. Normal airport operations resumed shortly afterward.

The suspect, who has no prior criminal record, was arrested on charges of aggravated damage, officials said. He is expected to appear in court on Thursday.
