Authorities in Trieste have issued 28 orders barring individuals from entering specific urban areas following police operations linked to a recent municipal ordinance targeting Piazza Perugino, Piazza Garibaldi, and surrounding streets.

The measures were discussed during a coordination meeting led by Prefect Giuseppe Petronzi, highlighting ongoing preventive and enforcement efforts. Operations by State Police and Carabinieri have focused on both central squares and nightlife areas, while tourist zones such as Barcola, Sistiana, and Muggia have also seen increased patrols. Border Police activity related to the temporary suspension of the Schengen Agreement with Slovenia led to about 30 arrests, including cases of aiding illegal immigration. Traffic and railway police have conducted thousands of checks, including alcohol and drug testing, amid a rise in summer travel.

When interviewed near Piazza Perugino, locals were largely skeptical about the effectiveness of the measures, though some said that action was long overdue.

Prefect Petronzi praised police leadership for their efforts in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors.
