Speaking at the “Steel Industry 2050” forum organized by Confindustria Udine, Friuli Venezia Giulia Governor Massimiliano Fedriga called for a unified approach to meet the region’s economic and social challenges, highlighting the need for strategic vision and courageous policy making.
“In the face of the major challenges ahead, we cannot afford to remain divided or follow misleading narratives,” Fedriga said. “We need a cohesive team, a strategic outlook, and the courage to make decisions that may be difficult but are necessary.”
The forum, which also featured Regional Councillor for Productive Activities Sergio Emidio Bini, included the presentation of a study on the steel industry conducted by the University of Udine in collaboration with Inest. The event brought together industry leaders including Luigino Pozzo, president of Confindustria Udine, and Antonio Gozzi, national president of Federacciai.
In his remarks, Fedriga underscored the importance of creating a level playing field in global markets, particularly in sectors such as steel, where research, development, and infrastructure investment play a critical role. “We cannot expect investors to succeed if the rules change from country to country,” he said, “or if there is no central authority explaining the strategic decisions to citizens.”
Fedriga’s address reinforced regional priorities around industrial competitiveness, workforce training, and inclusive development, as Friuli Venezia Giulia positions itself to navigate a shifting global economy.
