Elevated levels of ground-level ozone are expected to persist in Trieste through Sunday, June 29, according to the latest forecasts by ARPA-FVG, the regional environmental protection agency.

The concentration of ozone is anticipated to remain above the public health warning threshold of 120 micrograms per cubic meter, as defined by current environmental standards. The prolonged exceedance is attributed to stable meteorological conditions that favor the accumulation of this pollutant.

The notice follows the guidelines set out in the city’s current Air Quality Action Plan (Piano di Azione Comunale), approved by municipal decree no. 31 on February 11, 2013. The plan outlines measures to mitigate the health effects of high ozone levels, particularly during extended periods of exposure.

Residents are advised to take precautions to reduce exposure, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Recommended actions include limiting outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours and avoiding strenuous exercise outdoors.

Further guidance can be found in a public health advisory issued by Trieste’s local health authority (Azienda Sanitaria n. 1 Triestina), dated January 3, 2013, which remains in effect.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
