Tarvisio, a picturesque Alpine town in Friuli Venezia Giulia, has secured a coveted spot on the official calendar of the 2026 Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup. The International Ski Federation (FIS) confirmed that the town will host two key races—downhill and Super-G—on January 17 and 18, drawing global attention to the region.
“This is a source of great pride,” said Massimiliano Fedriga, president of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, in a statement on Friday. “It’s yet another confirmation of our region’s reliability and organizational strength in hosting top-tier international sporting events.”
Fedriga emphasized the broader impact of the announcement, pointing to significant economic benefits for the region’s mountain tourism and hospitality sectors. “Events of this scale generate far-reaching returns not only in economic terms but also in visibility and international prestige,” he said.
This isn’t Tarvisio’s first brush with global skiing acclaim. The town recently earned praise for its successful staging of the 2025 Junior Alpine World Ski Championships, as well as its hosting of the 2023 European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF). According to Fedriga, those events were instrumental in building the credibility that led to this new World Cup opportunity.
“We demonstrated not only the professionalism of our facilities and the warmth of our hospitality, but also a strong synergy between local institutions, communities, and businesses,” he said. “All backed by a highly capable organizational machine and an incredibly dedicated group of volunteers.”
Fedriga also expressed his gratitude to the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) for its continued support and collaboration, crediting their efforts in helping bring international competitions back to the Italian Alps.
With the countdown to January 2026 underway, Tarvisio is preparing to once again take center stage in the world of competitive skiing—this time, under the global spotlight of the FIS Alpine World Cup.
