Italy’s 79th Republic Day was commemorated in Trieste on Monday, June 2, with a series of public events organized by the Prefecture in cooperation with the city government.
The day began with a formal flag-raising ceremony in Piazza Unità d’Italia, attended by local authorities, including Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, City Councillor for Public Safety Caterina de Gavardo, and several members of the municipal council.
Simultaneously, a national ceremony took place at the Redipuglia War Memorial, where the City of Trieste was represented by the banner of the municipality and City Councillor for Education and Family Maurizio De Blasio.
Republic Day, established in 1946 following a national referendum that led to the end of the monarchy, is observed annually across Italy with official ceremonies and cultural events.
Later in the day, at 5:30 p.m., Piazza Unità will host the evening flag-lowering ceremony, followed by the reading of the message from the President of the Republic.
The celebrations will conclude with a free public concert at 7 p.m. in Piazza Verdi, offered by the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory of Music.
