On Wednesday, April 9, the Civic Theater Museum “Carlo Schmidl” in Trieste will host the sixth event of the 2025 Spring edition of Le Stanze della Musica (The Rooms of Music), a special series dedicated to exploring musical instruments. This particular session will focus on the oboe and bassoon, two woodwind instruments central to classical orchestral music.
The event, which will take place at 5:30 PM, is part of an ongoing series that aims to provide an in-depth look at various musical instruments from the museum’s collection. The initiative has gained attention for its innovative approach, offering a combination of expert-led guided tours and live performances. Each session highlights a different instrument, presented by young musicians from the “Tartini” Conservatory of Trieste, alongside their instructors.
On April 9, the featured musicians will include teachers Pietro Milella and Sergio Lazzeri, who will be joined by their students Federico Graziano, Paolo Baret, and Martina Miniussi. Pianist Rossella Fracaros will collaborate with the group, performing works by Benjamin Britten, Richard Strauss, Antonio Toriani, and Roger Boutry. The concert will not only explore the unique qualities of the oboe and bassoon but also delve into their historical significance and role in the classical music repertoire.
The Le Stanze della Musica series is designed for both general audiences and school groups. School visits are scheduled for 11:00 AM, with a special focus on music-oriented students, offering discounted tickets priced at 1 euro. The evening performances are open to the public, with the standard museum entrance fees: 5 euros for adults, 4 euros for reduced tickets, and 1 euro for students. Admission is free for children under six years old.
The series continues with additional events throughout the spring, including a focus on the cello (April 16), chamber music (April 30), wind instruments in ensemble music (May 7), and the interplay between voice and piano (May 14).
For those interested in attending the morning sessions, school reservations are required and can be made by emailing the museum at museoschmidl@comune.trieste.it.
This initiative offers a unique opportunity for both music enthusiasts and students to engage with the rich cultural heritage of Trieste while exploring the intricate sounds and history of classical instruments.
