Relations between the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the United States are characterized by strong collaboration, benefiting both military and environmental interests. This partnership has also enhanced economic, commercial, and tourism exchanges, supported by the work of the Regional Government in recent years.
At a workshop titled “USA – Italy: Sustainable Management of Training Areas,” held in Brugnera and promoted by the United States military command, the regional councilor for Infrastructure and Territory commented on the cooperation between the two regions.
“Friuli Venezia Giulia, due to its geographical location and historical context, has been a heavily militarized zone since the 19th century,” the councilor noted. “Its territory is dotted with ranges, bases, and military areas, fostering close institutional relations.”
This collaboration has intensified in light of current geopolitical tensions, with two conflicts near Europe’s borders. This scenario places Friuli Venezia Giulia in a strategic position on Italy’s northeastern frontier.
The morning session in Brugnera provided a platform to discuss the region’s biodiversity initiatives, focusing on the balanced use of military areas that also hold environmental significance. The councilor highlighted the growing commercial relations between Friuli Venezia Giulia and several American states, emphasizing mutual benefits.
These exchanges include reciprocal import-export activities, investments in local businesses, and the transfer of knowledge. The Aviano Air Base serves as a central hub for these interactions, underscoring the ongoing relationship between Friuli Venezia Giulia and the United States.
As both regions navigate modern geopolitical challenges, their partnership reflects a commitment to collaboration in addressing strategic and environmental objectives.
