In a historic move, the Verdi Theater in Muggia has been bestowed with the prestigious title of a national monument. This significant recognition comes on the heels of a recent vote at the Chamber of Deputies on bill 982.
The driving force behind Muggia’s elevation, along with several other local theaters, is none other than the esteemed Nicole Matteoni, a representative with deep ties to the Trieste region. In a statement, Matteoni expressed her delight, stating, “As a native of Trieste, it fills me with immense joy to witness the acknowledgment bestowed upon our regional theaters, including the illustrious Giuseppe Verdi and Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia-il Rossetti theaters in Trieste, and now, the Giuseppe Verdi Theater in Muggia. This recognition not only serves as a formal designation but also stands as a testament to their historical significance, serving as symbols of pride and prestige for our national community.”
For Nicola Delconte, Muggia’s Deputy Mayor overseeing cultural affairs, the designation represents a crowning achievement. “This recognition places us among the ranks of the most distinguished and revered theaters,” Delconte remarked. “It is a source of immense satisfaction, especially as it coincides with the recent centennial celebration of our theater in 2023. This milestone underscores the tireless efforts we’ve undertaken in recent years to revitalize our Verdi Theater, offering a diverse array of performances and initiatives that have resonated deeply with our audience.”
Delconte expressed gratitude towards Matteoni for her unwavering commitment to their city and hinted at future endeavors aimed at further enhancing and expanding Muggia’s cultural landscape.
The designation of the Verdi Theater as a national monument marks a pivotal moment in Muggia’s cultural heritage, signifying its enduring legacy and promising future on the national stage.
