Prosecco DOC Shockwave won the 55th Trofeo Bernetti on Sunday, edging out ARCA SGR by just over two minutes after a closely contested 15-mile race across the Gulf of Trieste.

The annual early-October regatta, organized during the 140th anniversary celebrations of the Pietas Julia sailing club, drew 182 boats across the Open and ORC fleets.

Light and shifting winds made the race particularly demanding. An initial northeasterly breeze weakened during the morning as winds from the southwest attempted to enter from the Monfalcone area, leaving sections of the course with little or no wind.

The leading Maxi boats, Prosecco DOC Shockwave and ARCA SGR, remained close throughout the race. The two boats rounded the final mark virtually together before Prosecco DOC, helmed by Mitja Kosmina, pulled ahead on the final leg to claim the Bernetti Cup.

ARCA SGR, led by Furio Benussi, finished second, while Marta07 ARCA SGR, with young Pietas Julia sailor Lorenzo Centuori at the helm, took third overall. Shining Marina Portoroz finished fourth, followed by Adriatic Europa.

The difficult conditions also forced race officials to shorten the Open fleet’s course, while the ORC fleet completed the full route.

In the ORC class, GINEVRA, skippered by Francesco Rigon of YC Vicenza, won the Trofeo Bernetti. ZELIG, with Patrizia Bragat and helmsman Fabio Rochelli, finished second, followed by FOREVER K, skippered by Claudio Bernoni of YC Portopiccolo.
