The streets of Gorizia have once again become a crossroads of cultures as Gusti di Frontiera opened its 21st edition, welcoming visitors to four days of international cuisine, music and cultural exchange.
Running through Sept. 27, the festival features 350 food and cultural stands representing 45 countries, spread across 17 themed villages throughout the city’s historic center. What began as a local food celebration has evolved into one of northeastern Italy’s largest international events, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
Regional and local officials inaugurated the festival on Wednesday evening, describing it as a key part of Gorizia’s growing tourism identity following its year as the European Capital of Culture 2025 alongside neighboring Nova Gorica.
Accessibility at the Heart of the Event
To accommodate the expected crowds, the Friuli Venezia Giulia region has expanded public transportation throughout the festival. The mobility plan includes additional regional trains, more than 30,000 extra rail seats, shuttle buses linking the railway station with the city center, and dedicated services for visitors with disabilities.
Security has also been reinforced with a coordinated operation involving local police, national law enforcement, firefighters, civil protection volunteers and emergency medical services, supported by a regional investment of approximately €200,000.
Beyond the Food: Europe’s Largest Digital Art Gallery
Visitors exploring the festival can also experience one of Gorizia’s newest cultural landmarks: the DAG – Digital Art Gallery, located inside the restored Galleria Bombi.
The immersive venue is home to Refik Anadol’s “Data Tunnel,” a large-scale installation that blends artificial intelligence, architecture and digital art. Opened as part of the city’s cultural transformation, the gallery has been presented as the largest digital art gallery in Europe and offers a contemporary complement to the festival’s celebration of international traditions.
For four days, Gorizia offers visitors the opportunity to travel the world without leaving its historic center—through food, art and the unique cross-border spirit that continues to shape the city’s identity.
