Authorities in Trieste will carry out three consecutive early-morning mosquito control operations after a confirmed case of dengue was identified in the city’s southern district, municipal officials announced on Friday.

The preventive disinfestation campaign will take place from 3:00 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 20, 21 and 22 within a 200-meter radius of upper Via Pasquale Revoltella, following confirmation of the case by the Prevention Department of the Giuliano Isontina University Health Authority (ASUGI).

The order, signed by Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, authorizes both adult mosquito spraying and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites in the affected area. An additional door-to-door larvicide treatment is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. on Sept. 21.

Residents, condominium managers and businesses within the designated zone have been instructed to remain indoors during spraying, keep doors and windows closed, switch off ventilation systems, and keep pets inside. Fruit and vegetables grown in private gardens should be harvested beforehand or covered with airtight plastic sheeting.

The municipality also urged residents to remove standing water from balconies, gardens and courtyards, treat private drains with larvicides, maintain vegetation and properly store containers, tarps and tires to prevent water accumulation in the coming weeks.

To allow the operation to proceed safely, vehicle traffic will be prohibited between approximately 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on the three treatment days across streets surrounding Via Revoltella, including portions of Via San Pasquale, Strada di Rozzol, Via San Pio X and several adjacent roads. Emergency vehicles, law enforcement and disinfestation crews will be exempt from the restrictions.

Municipal police will assist with traffic management throughout the operation.
