interview: Serena Tonel, deputy mayor of Trieste
A solemn Mass was held Saturday morning at the Church of Villa Revoltella in Trieste to mark the Feast of the Assumption, a Catholic holiday celebrated across Italy on Aug. 15.
The annual service, dedicated to St. Paschal Baylon, was celebrated in accordance with the testamentary wishes of Baron Pasquale Revoltella, the 19th-century Triestine industrialist and philanthropist whose legacy is closely associated with the villa and its park.
The ceremony began at 10 a.m. The City of Trieste was represented by Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel.
The Mass remains a longstanding August tradition at Villa Revoltella, linking the religious observance of Ferragosto with the historical legacy of one of the city’s most prominent benefactors.
