Low-cost carrier Wizz Air will begin operating its first domestic route from Trieste Airport on Dec. 14, introducing a direct connection to Naples as the airline expands its presence in northeastern Italy.

The new service will operate four times a week — on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays — with introductory one-way fares starting at €19.99. Tickets went on sale Thursday through the airline’s website and mobile app.

The route will connect Friuli Venezia Giulia with Campania, offering travelers a direct option between northeastern and southern Italy for tourism, business, study and family travel. It also aims to support tourism in both directions by making Trieste and the surrounding region more accessible to visitors from southern Italy.

Flights will be operated using Airbus A321neo aircraft, which the airline says offer improved fuel efficiency and lower carbon emissions compared with previous generations.

The Naples service becomes Wizz Air’s second route from Trieste, joining its existing international connection to Tirana. The airline expects to offer about 60,000 seats to and from Trieste during 2026, including more than 33,000 during the summer season.

Wizz Air began operations at Trieste Airport in 2023 and says it has carried about 200,000 passengers through the airport since then.

Fabio Gallo, chief executive of Trieste Airport, described the Naples connection as a strategic addition that strengthens the airport’s network and reflects its growing appeal to airlines. He said the new route could lay the groundwork for further expansion of Wizz Air’s services from Trieste beginning with the 2027 summer schedule.

Italy is Wizz Air’s largest market by passenger numbers and routes served. The airline, which operates a fleet of 270 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, plans to offer more than 32 million seats across Italy in 2026, serving destinations in 33 countries. Since entering the Italian market in 2004, the carrier says it has transported more than 138 million passengers.
