Interview: Alberto Valenti, president of Pietas Julia
The 55th Trofeo Bernetti, one of the Adriatic’s premier sailing regattas, will return to the Gulf of Trieste on Oct. 4, organizers announced Monday during a press conference marking the 140th anniversary of Società Nautica Pietas Julia.
Founded in 1972, the Trofeo Bernetti has grown into one of the region’s most prestigious sailing events, second only to the Barcolana in the Gulf of Trieste. The race regularly attracts hundreds of crews from Italy and neighboring countries, making it a key fixture on the northern Adriatic sailing calendar.
This year’s edition will serve as the finale of Pietas Julia’s anniversary celebrations, honoring a sailing club whose history stretches back to 1886 in Pula before its rebirth in Sistiana after the Istrian exodus.
Alongside the regatta, the anniversary program includes a symbolic Pula–Sistiana sail, a rowing event, and an open-water swim through the Duino Cliffs Nature Reserve, celebrating the club’s enduring connection to the sea. More info can be found here.
