Trieste’s civic museums will host a series of guided tours and family activities over the May Day weekend, offering visitors a chance to explore the city’s cultural and historical institutions.

The program begins May 1 at the Risiera di San Sabba, where a guided visit examines the site’s role as a Nazi detention and extermination camp, now preserved as a national monument.

On May 2, the Museo Sartorio will present a tour of the Lokar Collection, featuring more than 500 pieces of 18th-century European porcelain, while additional visits will again be offered at the Risiera.

Free admission will be available on Sunday, May 3, as part of Italy’s #domenicalmuseo, which opens participating museums nationwide at no cost on the first Sunday of the month. In Trieste, this includes the Museo Revoltella, the Castello di San Giusto and several others.

Sunday’s program also features a children’s treasure hunt and guided adult tours at the Castello di San Giusto, as well as a visit at the Museo Revoltella focusing on 19th- and early 20th-century Triestine painting.

Most guided activities require reservations and a small fee, but the initiative aims to broaden access and encourage public engagement with the city’s museums.
