The Municipality of Trieste has announced that applications for the new municipal nursery school “Marinella,” located in the Roiano district, will open on March 23 for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Families will be able to submit applications online from March 23 through April 12, 2026, using Italy’s digital identity systems, including SPID, the Electronic Identity Card (CIE), or the National Services Card (CNS). The application portal will be accessible via the city’s education website.

The Marinella nursery, situated on Via Montorsino, will accept children in two age groups: infants born between August 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, and older toddlers born between January 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025. Enrollment for the youngest group is limited to facilities equipped to care for children between three and 36 months of age.

Special provisions apply for children born prematurely. Upon request and with appropriate medical certification, families may have their child assessed according to adjusted developmental age rather than chronological age, potentially allowing placement in a younger age category.

City officials emphasized that applications for the Marinella nursery are open to all families, regardless of whether they previously applied during the standard enrollment period held earlier this year. Applications submitted during that earlier window will retain their original scoring, while new applications to Marinella will be evaluated based on updated self-declared information.

Families who apply only to Marinella may still choose to add other municipal or affiliated private nurseries at a later stage, though such additions will be considered late applications and placed after those submitted during the regular enrollment period.

In cases where a child is offered placement both at Marinella and at another selected facility, families will be required to choose between the two options by August 14, 2026. If a child remains on waiting lists across multiple choices, the first available placement offered by the administration will automatically cancel all other pending applications.

Further information is available through the city’s single service desk, which can be reached by phone or email during designated office hours.
