Interviews: Giorgio Perini – president of the association Giuliani nel mondo, Serena Tonel, deputy mayor of Trieste

Trieste’s mayor, Roberto Dipiazza, and deputy mayor, Serena Tonel, welcomed a delegation of Giuliani from abroad on Monday at the Salotto Azzurro in City Hall.

The group of 14 visitors — arriving from Canada, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, South Africa and Australia — is in the city as guests of the Association Giuliani nel Mondo for the “Day of Giuliani Abroad,” scheduled to take place at the Regional Council on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The delegation was introduced by Giorgio Perini, president of the Association Giuliani nel Mondo, along with honorary president Dario Locchi.

After greeting the visitors, Mr. Dipiazza offered an overview of the city’s history and outlined Trieste’s major urban regeneration plans, including the redevelopment of the Porto Vecchio–Porto Vivo waterfront area.

Ms. Tonel emphasized the importance of preserving ties between Trieste and those who have emigrated over the decades. “It is very important for us to maintain contact between the city of Trieste and its sons and daughters who live around the world,” she said.

Mr. Perini highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting the multigenerational makeup of the group. “We are truly proud,” he said. “We have brought representatives of historic emigrants and exiles, as well as third-generation descendants. It is important that young and old can travel together. The younger generation, who often have not heard much about their family history, listen with great interest when traveling with elders and discover a world they did not previously know, while for the elders it is an opportunity to rediscover their roots.”
