Regional leaders and business associations in Friuli Venezia Giulia are working together to discourage price hikes during large-scale events that attract significant numbers of visitors to the region.

Governor Massimiliano Fedriga convened a meeting on Tuesday with representatives from Confcommercio, Federalberghi, Fipe, Confesercenti, Fiavet, the Italian Bathing Union, and the Hotel Hospitality Group. Regional Councillors Sergio Emidio Bini, responsible for productive activities, and Pierpaolo Roberti, responsible for local authorities, were also present.

At the meeting, trade groups agreed to launch an awareness campaign among their members, encouraging fair and responsible pricing practices. The regional government, meanwhile, is considering the introduction of incentive measures for businesses that meet established standards.

Business associations condemned what they described as a small minority of operators who exploit tourism surges for short-term profit. Officials emphasized that the vast majority of hoteliers, restaurateurs, and other service providers act responsibly.

“Price fairness is fundamental to protecting consumers and strengthening Friuli Venezia Giulia’s reputation as a high-quality tourist destination,” Mr. Bini said. “This shared effort with business categories is a step toward further consolidating the competitiveness of our regional economy.”

The issue will continue to be examined as part of the approval process for a new regulation on trade associations. Officials said the goal is to reward best practices while balancing consumer protection with the region’s economic competitiveness.
