Interviews: Riccardo Riccardi, FVG Councilor for Health; Roberto Di Lenarda, Rector of the University of Trieste
Regional officials in Trieste have unveiled plans for a new educational and research facility aimed at strengthening training opportunities in the medical and healthcare fields. The initiative, set to take place within the hospital district of Cattinara, was presented during a press conference attended by top regional health and education authorities.
“This significant investment is part of a broader strategy to make the region increasingly attractive to young people,” said Riccardo Riccardi, Regional Councillor for Health. “We want to offer them the best conditions to study, work, and approach careers in healthcare.”
The regional government has already allocated an advance of €2.5 million as part of its latest budget adjustment to initiate the design phase of the new campus.
Alessia Rosolen, Regional Councillor for Education, University, and Research, emphasized the project’s alignment with the region’s long-term educational goals. “We continue to promote high-quality training,” she said, noting that the development of new infrastructure is essential to maintaining excellence in both education and applied research.
Also present at the announcement were the General Director of the Giuliano Isontina University Health Authority and representatives from the academic and medical communities, all of whom highlighted the collaborative nature of the project.
The upcoming campus is expected to serve as a hub for students, researchers, and healthcare professionals, with the broader aim of integrating clinical practice, research, and training in one unified location. While no completion date has been announced, planning activities are set to begin in the coming months.
