A recent Cirque du Soleil production has set a new benchmark for live entertainment in Friuli Venezia Giulia, attracting nearly 72,000 spectators from 250 countries and drawing praise from local authorities for its economic and promotional impact.
Governor Massimiliano Fedriga described the event as “the most-watched live event ever” in the region, crediting its wide international appeal and strong turnout from other parts of Italy, particularly from regions with direct flight connections to Trieste Airport, such as Puglia and Campania.
Regional officials estimate that visitors contributed close to €20 million to the local economy, benefiting a range of sectors including hospitality, transport, and retail.
“This shows the maturity of our local audience and infrastructure,” Mr. Fedriga said. “We’re actively working on bringing more major events to Friuli-Venezia Giulia that can offer both visibility and economic opportunity.”
The Cirque du Soleil performance is part of a broader strategy by the regional government to position Friuli-Venezia Giulia as a destination for high-profile cultural and entertainment events. Past examples include a concert by Italian pop star Jovanotti at the scenic Fusine Lakes, which, although capped in attendance due to safety concerns, helped draw national attention to the area.
Our region, located at the crossroads of Italy, Austria, and Slovenia, has increasingly marketed itself as an emerging hub for tourism and international gatherings, a trend officials hope to strengthen in the coming years.
