The summer cultural season in Trieste continues to unfold with a diverse lineup of music and theater events under the “Trieste Estate 2025” banner, organized by the Municipality of Trieste. Highlights of the upcoming weekend—from Friday, July 11 to Monday, July 14—include jazz performances, theatrical productions, and a much-anticipated open-air symphonic concert at the historic Castello di San Giusto.
On Friday evening, the Giardino del Museo Sartorio will host “My Name is Nina – A Portrait of Nina Simone”, a multimedia performance blending music, narrative, and imagery to explore the life and legacy of the American singer, pianist, and civil rights activist. The show, presented as part of the TriesteLovesJazz Festival in collaboration with Udin&Jazz, offers a nuanced look at Simone’s artistic achievements and personal struggles. Through a combination of original compositions and reinterpretations of works she famously performed, the production aims to portray a complex figure whose voice transcended genres and generations. Admission is free, and the performance begins at 9:00 p.m.
The weekend program also includes a series of musical and theatrical offerings across the city, but perhaps the most eagerly awaited event is the performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at the San Giusto Castle. The dramatic cantata, based on medieval texts, is known for its powerful choral arrangements and visceral emotional impact. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of the castle’s stone walls, the performance is expected to draw a large and diverse audience.
Trieste Estate 2025 continues to emphasize accessibility and cultural richness, bringing international influences and local talent together in public spaces. Organizers aim to make the city’s historical sites a living stage, where contemporary interpretations meet timeless works.
