The second day of the 26th ShorTS International Film Festival in Trieste offered audiences a blend of innovation and cinematic celebration, as the city continues its annual showcase of global short films and emerging talent.

Beginning at 4 p.m. at Sala Xenia, the festival unveiled its ShorTS Immersive section—an exploration of storytelling through virtual reality. Visitors equipped with personalized headsets could experience 11 immersive narratives—three created using 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) technology and eight in Cinematic VR. The exhibit remains open until 8 p.m. and invites viewers to engage with stories in a full 360-degree spatial and temporal format, allowing for a deeply personal and multi-perspective experience. Reservations are available via the festival’s official website, maremetraggio.com.

At 7 p.m., attention shifts to Teatro Miela, where Italian actress Barbara Ronchi will be honored with the Interprete del Presente Award. The accolade recognizes her growing body of work and her expressive range, spanning both comedic and dramatic roles. Known for her depth and precision, Ronchi has become a prominent figure in contemporary Italian cinema.

Following the award presentation, Ronchi will participate in a masterclass moderated by festival director Maurizio di Rienzo. The session will reflect on her artistic journey and evolving career. The evening concludes with a screening of Familia (Italy, 2024), directed by Francesco Costabile, featuring Ronchi in a central role.

The ShorTS International Film Festival continues through July 5, with a program that bridges traditional filmmaking and emerging narrative technologies, reflecting the evolving landscape of visual storytelling.
